Outer Banks Wedding - Melissa and Paul - May 2010

Melissa and Paul tied the knot on a lovely May afternoon in Duck. The beach ceremony was perfect, and everyone danced the night away under a brightly decorated tent on the lawn of their event home. We had been in touch with Melissa's mom Laura throughout the planning process, and she couldn't have been more lovely to work with. She called us about a week before the wedding to ask if we could also do video as a surprise for Melissa! What a wonderful gift!

Brenda Zeigler coordinated the wedding and did an amazing job. She was everywhere, always making sure we knew what was going on and when, and that we enjoyed some amazing food from Red Sky Cafe!

It was obvious that Melissa and Paul are head over heels for each other. I have to say (and hope Melissa won't mind), that I felt like she was a little on edge before the ceremony. She was stuck in the house's master bedroom, with guests filling in just outside her door, and she just seemed anxious to get the show on the road! I say all of this because, standing out on the beach and watching Melissa get her first glimpse of Paul, you could see her entire demeanor change. She was instant smiles as pure happiness washed over her. From then on, Melissa and Paul seemed not to have a care in the world other than being together.

They shared their first dance together to Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight," a personal favorite of mine, and the rest is history! Congrats!

Summertime Motivation

Chad and I have just begun the busiest week of the entire season. We just shot weddings on Saturday and Sunday, have another on Wednesday, followed by another on Friday. Friday night we are leaving straight from the reception to drive half way to Maryland (and the rest in the morning) to shoot yet another wedding on Saturday! Five weddings in eight days. This will complete May and June, marking 16 weddings in two months!

We are extremely grateful to be so busy during a time that many people would love to have work, let alone be overwhelmed by it; however, I have to admit that at times, I find it hard to stay positive during long days in front of the computer that seem to have no end in sight. So what's the answer?

Our clients! Just when I think that I cannot sit in front of this screen a minute longer, emails and reviews pop up like these below to keep me going. Chad and I are very aware that we hold the responsibility of creating images that you all will keep forever, and to know that you are happy with what you receive means the world to us. So, thank YOU.

~To be an artist is both a blessing and a curse, but we have no option other than to create and then to create again.~

"Thank you guys so much again for everything – genuine talent!!!! Of all the things I spent money on for this wedding, I definitely feel like this was by far the best decision I made, not just financially but quality-wise as well. In other words, money well spent!!! I will treasure these photos forever."

"Just wanted to send you both a HUGE THANK YOU for doing such an awesome job on our pictures. All of our families were very impressed with the quality. We've enjoyed looking through them & laughing & I know we'll continue to look back & share our memories for many years to come. Not just any photographer would be willing to take a boat ride with us...Thank you for everything."

Outer Banks Wedding - Emily and Greg - May 2010

Next up....Emily and Greg!

We ask each of our brides to fill out a questionnaire to help us get to know them and get a feel for their style. Here's part of what Emily wrote to us:

"LOVE the journalistic/candid approach. Not big on posed shots but I'm aware that they're necessary for the formal shots. If guests pose too much feel free to tell them (per the bride's request) to just relax and pretend you're not there so you can get some genuine photos. I love natural sunlight and shadows. I love uncentered photos and weird angles and oddly cropped images. I am an artist and appreciate art so feel free to experiment and be as creative as possible."

When we read that, Chad and I immediately started brainstorming. Emily, you might possibly be our dream client! Chad took the reigns on this one, and I was so excited to see the results. To top it off, this was not a beach wedding. While we love beach weddings and know that is what brides come here for 99% of the time, Emily and Greg are locals. They opted out of the beach theme, so we had the opportunity to work with some different locations. Chad took the girls to the middle of a street in Chicahauk (Southern Shores) for some of my absolute favorite ever bridesmaids photos. Emily, you looked gorgeous and your ladies rocked it!

Their ceremony was at Kitty Hawk United Methodist, and everyone drove down to The Pearl to get down! Emily, being the artist that she is, designed a lot of the decor including the awesome menu covers.

I loved editing these photos and pushing my creative limits. Congrats to a couple who met their junior year of high school, has a beautiful little boy, and embodies the essence of young love!

PS. The last image was shot by a wedding guest of Greg and Emily's coasters- "G&E" :)
